Bellevue Brings Christmas to Frayser Families Members of Bellevue Baptist Church brought food and Christmas gifts to Frayser families in need during the church’s Operation Family Christmas ministry on Saturday, December 15. Beginning November 18, Bellevue members were asked to donate grocery bags full of food to be distributed at Impact Ministries of Memphis, Bellevue’s ministry center in Frayser. Bellevue members donated over 20,000 pounds of food for the ministry. Seventy-seven of Bellevue’s adult Bible Fellowship classes also “adopted” families who live near Impact Ministries of Memphis. Members of each class contacted their adopted family to learn about the needs that family had. The classes then purchased gifts for each member of the families to try to meet those needs. On Distribution Day, December 15, Bellevue volunteers arrived at Impact Ministries of Memphis at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for the giveaway. Despite the rainy day, 314 families representing 1,150 people from the area lined up outside to receive food. The line was moved inside, and as volunteers handed out bags of food, they were able to tell the recipients about God’s love for them. Bible Fellowship classes visited 130 families to deliver the gifts they had purchased. The teams also brought a box of the donated food and a 6-8 lb. chicken to each family. As teams distributed gifts, they took the opportunity to pray with the families and tell them about the greatest Christmas gift of all time: the birth of a Savior, Jesus Christ. “When I think about Operation Family Christmas,” said Steve Marcum, Bellevue’s Minister of Missions, “all I can say is ‘Wow, what a day!’” Over 500 Bellevue volunteers had the privilege of sharing the joy of Christmas with over 2,000 people in need through the Operation Family Christmas Ministry. Bellevue Baptist Church is located on Appling Road at I-40 in Cordova.
