Bellevue and Partners Begin Christian Mobile Dental Clinic
New Ministry to Underprivileged Children

The Christian Mobile Dental Clinic will begin serving underprivileged Memphis residents on Thursday, February 19. The clinic plans to pioneer a new ministry strategy by traveling to low-income areas of Memphis, where 95% of residents lack any dental insurance, to provide basic dental services free of charge. By meeting the practical needs of the community, dental professionals who are volunteering their time hope to open the door for sharing the Gospel with their patients.

The concept for the Christian Mobile Dental Clinic began as part of the "Bellevue Loves Memphis" program at Bellevue Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Steve Gaines. To operate the clinic, Bellevue is partnering with local churches and organizations including Baptist Memorial Health Care, buydentalequipment.com,  Christian Medical and Dental Association, Darby Dental, Mid-South Baptist Association, Patterson Dental, Second Presbyterian Church, Tennessee Baptist Convention, Trinity Baptist Church, and UT Health Science Center's Department of Dental Hygiene.

The clinic's first day of operation will take place at Community Bible Church (601 N. Bellevue Blvd.) on Thursday, February 19. The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Gaines will be present to pray over the ministry. Dentists involved in the ministry and representatives from the clinic's sponsors will also be in attendance.

The clinic will initially operate 150 days in a year. Services offered will include palliative care, simple extractions, and simple fillings, as well as instruction on brushing and flossing techniques and dietary habits that support oral health.
