Now that we’ve officially entered the New Testament in our Chronological Bible reading plan, this is the perfect time to get started or to jump back in if you’ve gotten off track.
The truth is, reading your Bible every day isn’t just about checking a box—it’s about being shaped by God’s Word one day at a time. But consistency doesn’t happen by accident. Here are a few practical tips to help you build (or rebuild) a sustainable, life-giving Bible reading rhythm.
1. Pick a Consistent Time
One of the easiest ways to turn Bible reading into a daily habit is to anchor it to a specific time each day. Whether it’s first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, or right before bed, consistency creates routine—and routine builds habit.
2. Don’t Work It in—Work Around It
Let’s be honest: If you wait to “find time” to read your Bible, it probably won’t happen. Life is busy, distractions are endless, and spiritual disciplines don’t tend to fall into our laps.
Instead of trying to squeeze Bible reading in, build your day around it. This means making it a nonnegotiable part of your schedule. Maybe that means waking up 15 minutes earlier. Maybe it’s listening to the Bible in your car on the way to work after reading a chapter at home. Whatever works for your life—plan it intentionally.
3. Set Yourself Up for Success
Don’t underestimate the power of preparation. Have your Bible, notebook, and pen all in one place, ready to go. Whether that’s on your nightstand, your kitchen table, or a favorite chair, having a consistent setup minimizes distractions and excuses. You won’t waste time searching for a highlighter or wondering where you left your journal. Also make your reading spot comfortable and inviting. A quiet corner, a warm mug, and an open Bible can become a sacred part of your daily life.
4. Give Yourself Some Grace
Let’s get real, you’re going to miss a day. Maybe even a few. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed or that you’re not “spiritual enough.” It just means you’re human.
God isn’t keeping score—He’s inviting you into relationship. Lamentations 3:22–23 reminds us that His mercies are new every morning. So when you miss a day, don’t beat yourself up. Just come back. Start again. Keep going. Growth takes time, and consistency is built through grace, not guilt.
If you haven’t started the Chronological Bible yet, don’t worry. Start today. Start right where we are. There’s no shame in beginning now. In fact, there’s wisdom in it.
Let this be the season where Bible reading becomes more than a goal—it becomes your way of life. Let’s encourage one another as we grow together in God’s Word!
