Do you know for certain that you will go to Heaven when you die? Would you say that is something you are still working on? One thing you can know for sure is God loves YOU. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
The word "Gospel" literally means "good news." In order to understand why it's so good, we must first understand the bad news.
As a result of the fall in the Garden of Eden, mankind has inherently been corrupted by sin. Sin is anything that separates us from God; even the smallest lie misses the mark (the perfect standard) that God has set for us. Because of our sin, we are separated from our Creator and deserve the penalty for our sin, death.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Even though we can't earn our way back to God or measure up to His perfection, He sent Jesus to come to us! Even though we deserved the death penalty for our sin, Jesus took the penalty. God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to be born of a virgin, live a perfect and holy life, die on the cross, rise from the dead, and conquer our sins. We can be saved by grace through faith in Him! We can depend on Jesus for forgiveness and to give us everlasting life, to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. And to also have a relationship with Him here on Earth.
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ [Jesus] died for us.” Romans 5:8
“Christ died for our sins… He was buried…He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
What does it mean to repent? It means to do a spiritual U-turn with the help of the Holy Spirit. You turn from sin, and you turn to God. It doesn’t mean you’ll never sin again, but it does mean you are tired of it and don’t want to sin. “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3
Jesus paid the price for you, and that He rose from the dead to give you eternal life. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31
You invite Christ to come into your life, to be your Lord, and your Savior. The moment you call upon His name and receive Him as your Savior, He makes you a new creation. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12
"Lord Jesus, I confess that I have sinned against You. I turn from my sin right now. I believe that You died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins. I receive You as the Lord and Savior of my life. I give my life to You. In Jesus name, Amen.”
If you sincerely repented of your sin, put your faith in Christ, and called upon his name to save you, the Bible says you’re a Christian. Old things have passed away, new things have come, and the spirit of God has come to live within you. Welcome to the family of God!
