About

Highly qualified Christian teachers give each student a weekly lesson that is either 30, 45, or 60 minutes long. Students learn to play the instrument while also learning to read music, understand music theory, and play with proper technique.

Students learn the basics of guitar performance such as positioning the instrument, the notes on the fretboard, and developing coordination with the right and left hands. Students will also learn how to read music in standard notation, chord charts, lead sheets, and basic strum patterns. The semester culminates with performing a solo and/or duet piece for a group of their peers and their families and friends. Each lesson builds on earlier lessons. Daily practice at home is a necessity in order to develop and see overall progress. Students are encouraged to listen to music and bring in preferences of musical styles in order to guide their learning based on their interests.

Available lessons:

  • Acoustic Guitar
  • Electric Guitar
  • Electric Bass
  • Ukulele

Students who are enrolled in private lessons through SPA are encouraged to join a free guitar class held each Thursday from 6:00–7:00 pm. Private lessons are held one day a week for the designated lesson length. Students will perform in two recitals each year – one in the fall and one in the spring.
