“ Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before His presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100:15 KJV
This passage has always meant a lot to me. My 3rd grade classmates and I recited it in Mrs. Abercrombie’s class every day, which was a public school. Ultimately, I memorized the passage and could write it perfectly with the exception of punctuation. I’ve never been good with punctuation.
While there are times for quiet and reflection, Psalm 100 reminds us that believers should make a joyful noise unto the Lord, celebrating all that He is! I have heard the statement “It’s noisy” a lot lately. Recently, I was walking through the hallway at church where children and students were passing by. They were excited, laughing, and talking all at the same time.
The person with me commented, “It sure is good to hear the hallways of Bellevue full of noise again.”
The same thing happened while at a campground. Kids were riding their bikes and yelling, parents were calling for their kids to “slow down,” and adults were having fun cheering while competing in corn hole. After a year of quiet, the world is waking up again. I believe the noise of fellowship and service pleases the Lord.
Another kind of noise that pleases the Lord is worship. We serve the God who “was, and is, and is to come,” and He has done marvelous things in our lives (Revelation 1:8). It’s time to make some noise, church. There are many ways to praise the Lord, but Psalms 100 mentions singing. I know for some this is out of your comfort zone. God gave you your voice. Sing! Don’t be intimidated by the noise of the world or those who try to silence you. God gave you a voice. Use it to sing His praise.
Testifying also pleases the Lord. When we truly realize “the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations,” you have to share it (Psalms 100:5)! Let’s not keep the best thing that ever happened to us a secret. Speaking about the Lord and His Truth may not be socially acceptable, but it does please our Savior. Be loud and proud about who Jesus is and what He’s done in your life.
After a year of quiet, get out there and make some noise!
