Original prayer request from 6/4/25

One of my friends that I have known for about 4-5 years, also tried to witness to him about Jesus off and on over the years. His name is Rico, he is in his 40’s & was in a horrible accident. He & his wife have moved to a more rural area & he went to the bank on his scooter, so not driving a car but driving a scooter. When he was IN the bank line, a car rear ended him, & he was thrown from the scooter and landed on his neck on the pavement. This happened mid-April 2025. He is now paralyzed & can’t move from the neck down. What a freak & horrible accident!!!!!! The hospital kept him for about a month & he has been back at home now for just about a month. The hospital said there is a SMALL chance that the paralysis will be temporary & could happen to where he can move again within a year of the accident, but they are not sure. The diagnosis does not sound good.

Some of Rico’s friends think the doctors just told Rico this to give him some hope, but they think Rico is messed up from now on & won’t get any better. They could be correct.

However, we have a God we can call on to change that outcome if God is inclined to do so. I hate to think of someone in their 40s that can’t move from the neck down & someone I have known for years. A few days after it happened, I talked to him on the phone & asked him if he would like me to say a prayer for him. He said yes please do; I did. I also told him I will keep him in my prayers!

I told him that my dad had one of his best friends that had driven a motorcycle for fun on the weekends, etc. & he was in a bad wreck where a car had ran him over & that my dad’s friend had been pretty messed up from that accident, that he did recover but not fully, he didn’t get around as good as he used to. I also told him I had grown up as a teenager with my parents always warning me to never date anyone that had a motorcycle or not ever to get on a motorcycle that they weren’t safe due to not enough protection if a wreck were to happen. After I told this all to Rico, he asked me again, so he was able to eventually move his arms…. Referring to my dad’s friend.

That broke my heart… his asking me if my dad’s friend was able to move his arms. Poor Rico!!!!!!! We take for granted the things we can do every day, & this is such a bad result from such an unusual accident, not to be able to move from the NECK down. I can’t even imagine being in that situation. He is also not saved & doesn’t have Jesus to help him get through it.

Please pray that God will help him get saved through this horrible experience, that God will have mercy on Rico & give him a recovery from this accident so that he can move & have his mobility back as he used to before the accident happened.

Update as of today 9/21/25

I got to visit Rico about a month ago & this is an update about how he is doing. 5 good things: 1) The insurance is finally going to start & they will soon be getting a nurse at the house 15 hours every week 2) His wife, who is also acting as his nurse right now, is going to start being paid for her work as nurse 25 hours a week. 3) His physical therapy is supposed to start soon. He wants to go elsewhere for physical therapy instead of having them out to the house. I'm sure this is due to his wanting to get to see more places since now he can't move. 4) His disability check is starting soon. 5) He still can't move from the neck down, but he has some feeling in his legs & elsewhere. I asked him if I were to walk up to him & touch his leg would he be able to feel it & he said yes. I think this would be a good sign that he is starting to get feeling back.

Rico & his wife said he’s been taken to the hospital about 12 times by ambulance during these four months that he has been back at home & every time it's because his catherdu (not sure how to spell it) but think it's the attachment that catches the bathroom had gotten stopped up. They showed the wife how to flush that out so hopefully that will help.

I asked the wife what she is going to do when the nurse is there for 15 hours & suggested she take a break from helping since I don't want her to get negative & overwhelmed by the situation, she said she plans to put their stuff up. They had to move from the other place, so this is a new place they are living at. When I walked back to visit Rico who is in the back bedroom it looked like the house was not together, furniture just placed throughout the home. So, I think the moving company just got them moved & it did appear as if nothing else had been done except the one room he was in. They met online, Rico went to meet her in person, & they have been together ever since. They have now been together for six years. She is 35 years old & Rico is 49 years old.

The accident happened on 4/17/25, the doctors said this could be temporary paralysis & if it is temporary he would recover from it within the first year. Please pray God will have mercy on him & heal him of this, that he won’t stay paralyzed & he will make a FULL recovery from this. Please also pray that he & his wife get saved during this time.
