I would like to ask that your prayer team pray fervently about this hard situation I am in.

My 88 year old grandma who had dementia was admitted to rehab at a nursing home in late August 2019 because she could not walk to the bathroom on her own or get in/out of her bed anymore. My family had hoped she could get better and eventually come back home. Sadly, that never happened. My grandma had a brain bleed in 2016 so it was important for us to do whatever to prevent her from falling and hitting her head again. The neurologist had shared 3 years ago that if my grandma fell again and had another brain bleed that it could be fatal.

Because of my grandma`s dementia, she had an obsession with picking stuff off the floor. Less than four months later after she was admitted to the nursing home, she was left unattended and unsupervised in her room. She leaned toward the floor to pick some stuff and fell out of her wheelchair hitting her head on the floor on December 20th. She got a laceration on her forehead. She was taken to the ER at the local hospital. Fortunately, it was confirmed that she did not have a brain bleed. She was brought back to the nursing home, but a number of family members including myself were concerned that she could fall again in a similar way and that the next fall could be fatal. The nursing home had records that showed she had a brain bleed in 2016 so they knew her previous history. We expressed our concerns about preventing her from falling again over the next few days, but the staff members especially a head nurse would not take those concerns seriously. Two days after she fell, her sister noticed she was almost sliding out of her wheelchair in the cafeteria at lunch time and asked a guy to lift her back up in a right position.

Five days later on Christmas Day, our family visited her that afternoon. We spent some time with her in the TV room. She constantly tried to pick stuff off the floor and numerous family members had to redirect her to not do that. We left her with a staff member in the cafeteria for dinner that evening and left a little after 5 PM. About 45 minutes later, she was left unattended and unsupervised in her room. She fell out of her wheelchair in a similar way as the fall 5 days earlier. This time, it was much worse because she broke her neck. She was taken to the ER and they confirmed that she had a type II odontoid fracture (also known as a C2 fracture). She was required to wear a neck brace that was uncomfortable for the last 6 weeks of her life. Sadly, she did not recover and there was a decline in her health. She succumbed to complications of the cervical fracture 6 weeks later on February 5th. Her life was tragically cut short by this devastating fall that could have been prevented.

I have hired an attorney to help me to do a claim against the nursing home. It’s very important that the nursing home be held accountable.

There have been obstacles:

I would like for you to pray for the following items:

1.) Please pray that there will be no probate for the estate. The estate is so small. Estates in North Carolina with assets under $20,000 do not need probate. There is a probate hearing scheduled for June 11th. Please pray that it will be cancelled. The only asset we seem to have is the car which is valued at only $500. My mom and aunt have agreed to give the car to their aunt. She wants to fix it up.

2.) Please pray that the estate will be settled quickly and that there will be no public notice to creditors. We do not need to be harassed by creditors since there are no assets.

3.) Please pray that all obstacles will be removed and that the court will appoint me as a representative or administrator to bring the law suit. My mom is not emotionally capable to testify in court. I am the best one to. I saw a lot of things and interacted with staff there regularly.

4.) Please pray for my aunt to step down and transfer the title of the car. She does not want her name to be attached to the case or testify and I respect her wishes. She tragically lost her biological mom (my grandma’s sister) in a car accident before she was 1. She tries to minimize things and she prefers to deal with life in that way. She did something very hurtful in March. She refused to sign a medical records release for my grandma at one of the hospitals because she was afraid I would sue. She did it out of fear because she thought that if I sued she might be required to testify or have her name attached to a case. Please pray for my aunt to not interfere in any way and she will be thrilled to learn there is no probate and that she will not fight. Please pray that God would overwhelm her with compassion that will keep her from trying to interfere with this case or hinder anything.

It doesn't take long scrolling this page to see that there are many hurting people in hard situations. Yet, our hope is in the Lord, and His church. I am grateful to have a place to ask for intercession and to know that prayers will be offered. Thank you, Bellevue!

As I have shared before, my wife and I are separated. I have given this situation over to the Lord. The past few weeks have been very hard for me. It is unspeakably hard being away from our four kids. It is hard not having one's spouse to talk with daily. The not knowing is hard. Utter hopelessness is always a mere thought away. I ask of you, if you're reading this, to pray for restoration for my marriage and family. Pray for softened hearts, forgiveness, and grace.

PLEASE CONTINUE PRAYING: The judge has still not ruled in the January 30 self-defense hearing. He originally asked for 10 days to make a ruling with regards to self-defense. The hearing on Jan. 30th was very favorable for us.

Original request: Pray for my husband, a 73-yr. old minister, husband, father and grandfather with no criminal history who is charged with murder and assault after being forced to defend his life against a knife-attack at a laundromat in Nov. 2017. He had a self-defense hearing on January 30, 2020. The 65-yr old man (the deceased) that attacked my husband has a long 26-year violent criminal history including manslaughter and was accompanied by a female companion who joined him in the attack. My husband said he hoped to share the Gospel with the man when he observed him loitering, harassing others, and making negative comments about race relations, but he never got the opportunity. Since a work-related injury left my husband with some disability, he is licensed to carry a firearm (which he usually does not carry); but he did have it and was forced to use it that day. Pray for The Lord's Mercy and Favor, this has been a long battle and difficult on the entire family. However we are steadfast in our faith.
