Rites of Passage Experience (ROPE)
Your teenager is made up of three things: body, mind, and soul.
We see many parents who encourage their teenagers in physical areas—our society puts an amazing emphasis on sports and fitness. We also see many parents who are setting up their teenagers for academic success, helping them sharpen their minds.
But when it comes to the teenager’s soul, we see many parents who don’t know how to help their son or daughter become who God has called them to be.
Deuteronomy 6:4–9 NLT spells out our goal for parenting—to teach children to love God and learn His ways:
“Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
From that passage, we see that parents are the primary spiritual leaders in teenagers’ lives and that parents are to teach Scripture during the regular rhythms of their homes.
Next Gen Ministry wants to help you pass down your faith with a plan called the Rites of Passage Experience (ROPE).
ROPE is an annual activity for you and your teen that will maximize your influence as a parent. For each rite of passage, we provide preplanned, creative, and fun activities to help you and your teenager learn from the experience being highlighted that year.
