Rites of Passage Experience (ROPE)
Your teenager is made up of three things: body, mind, and soul.
We see a lot of parents of teenagers doing an amazing job encouraging their teenager physically. The emphasis on sports and fitness in our society is amazing. We see a lot parents of teenagers doing an excellent job setting their teenagers up for success academically. They are focused on sharpening the mind of their teenager.
When it comes to the teenager’s soul, we see a lot of parents who want to see their son or daughter become who God has called them to be but just don’t know how to help them get there.
Deuteronomy 6:4–9 spells out our goal for parenting to teach children to love God and learn His ways:
“Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
From this passage, we see that the parents are the primary spiritual leaders in the life of a teenager and that Scripture is to be taught in the regular rhythms of your home.
Next Gen Ministry wants to help you in your process of passing down your faith, with a plan called the Rites of Passage Experience (ROPE for short).
The Rites of Passage Experience is an annual activity for you and your teen that will maximize your influence as a parent. For each Rite of Passage, we will provide pre-planned, creative, and fun activities to help you and your student learn from the experience being highlighted that year.
