Tutorial Courses
Our classes meet once a week on Tuesdays or Thursdays for 32 weeks as part of our full-year classes. Our qualified tutors provide 1.5 hours of instruction each week and send students home with instructions for work to be completed until the next class meeting. RegisterGo! Amanda Desmarais
Amanda is a longtime homeschool parent and teacher. She has homeschooled for the past 13 years and taught in homeschool communities since 2013. She loves to learn and teach, and she especially enjoys meeting each student where they are and helping them grow in their gifts. She has a bachelor’s degree in French from Rhodes College, where she was able to complete a study abroad program in Paris. That trip holds a special place in her heart because it is where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She also has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Union University. Before leaving the workforce to homeschool full time, she worked as a nurse at St. JudeChildren’s Research Hospital.
Angie Smith
Angie grew up in a farming community in southern Arkansas and still loves visiting her parents’ farm there. She and her husband, Bryan, have been married for 23 years and have six children, ranging in age from 10 to 20, all of whom have been homeschooled.
Angie holds a degree in education from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She has always known she wanted to teach in some capacity, and serving as a tutor with Bellevue Tutorial has helped her fulfill that calling—especially through teaching science. Angie is a believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and believes science beautifully reflects the majestic glory of God and His Gospel. She views science as a worshipful subject and treasures the opportunity to worship the Lord alongside her students as they learn how wonderfully people are created and how clearly the world points to a divine Creator.
Becky Doyle
Becky graduated from Ball State University in Indiana with a Bachelor of Science inEducation.With her degree, she proceeded to teach in the public-school setting inTexas, Oklahoma, and New Jersey.After settling down in Collierville, with her husband and 4 children, she entered the awesome world of homeschool tutorials in 2012 and has never looked back.She is a passionate, hands-on tutor who cares deeply for her students and their families. She is both eager and excited to continue her ventures with the Bellevue Tutorial team.
Bethany Henry
Bethany is a veteran teacher of 30 years. After many years teaching in private schools and colleges, she has dedicated her time to the Memphis homeschool community over the last ten years by teaching at Bellevue Tutorial. She has also been offering ACT prep classes for 20 years. Bethany has been married for 30 years and is mother to three young men. She earned her Bachelor of Science in English education in 1994 and her Master of Education in 1996. She is an active member of Memphis Bible Church.
Breezy Edmiston
Breezy has taught public, private, and homeschool classes for a variety of ages. Miss Breezy is passionate about homeschooling because she was homeschooled herself until college. Miss Breezy loves her students, family, and her cat Mitch.
Bryan Edmiston
Bryan Edmiston retired in 2018 from Shelby County Schools, where he taught several high school subjects, including psychology. He is now a financial representative withLegacy Financial, which is relevant to teaching personal finance. Bryan grew up in Memphis and is very active at Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett, where he has taught several classes on being faithful with money as a Christian. He has a wife and four grown children who were all homeschooled for some time.
Charlie Moore
Steve and Charlie have been married 26 years. Steve started his business in 2000, and Charlie joined him in 2008, a few years after their first child came along. They began homeschooling in 2014. Charlie serves as the graduation coordinator for Memphis-Area Home Education Association. Her favorite verse in this season is Proverbs 15:30: “Bright eyes cheer the heart; good news strengthens the bones.”
Cheryle Roland
Cheryle graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in Early Childhood Education in 1997 and has worked in a variety of educational settings for more than 26 years. Her experience includes teaching kindergarten, first grade, and second grade in public schools, as well as serving as a literacy leader and instructional facilitator. After having children, she founded and directed the Mother’s Day Out program at Warren Community Church and later served as the children’s ministry director. Cheryle also tutors students of all ages in reading and language arts and has been homeschooling for eight years. She has a deep love for God, children, teaching, and books, and finds great joy in working with homeschool students—especially middle and high schoolers. When she’s not teaching or serving at church, Cheryle enjoys spending time with her family and exploring new places.
Dorann Simmons
Dorann earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Mississippi. After a short time in the business world, she realized her true desire was to work with young children and students. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Memphis (formerly Memphis State University). Dorann worked in public education for six years before being led to homeschool her two sons. From the beginning of her homeschool journey to the present day, she has volunteered with and taught children and students of all ages. She is passionate about helping students foster a love of learning and truly enjoys spending time with children at every stage.
Heather Smith
Heather is a graduate of the University of Memphis, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 2005. She has been teaching in a variety of settings for the past 20 years. Her experience includes serving as a classroom teacher in the public school system for 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th grades, as well as teaching Reading and Math intervention to K–5 students for three years. Heather has had a passion for teaching for as long as she can remember, inspired by watching her grandmother teach. She now homeschools her own teenage children and enjoys spending her spare time outdoors and listening to music with her husband and two children. Heather is grateful to be part of Bellevue Tutorial, where she is able to continue pursuing her love for teaching.
Jeff Snow
Jeff has been teaching U.S. history, world history, and U.S. government and economics for the past 25 years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Pensacola Christian College and his Master of Arts from the University of West Florida. In addition to teaching, Jeff leads a teen Bible class on Wednesday nights and an adult Bible class on Sunday mornings at his church. When he’s not in the classroom, he enjoys life on his farm in Brownsville. Jeff is currently working on a God in World History radio program that will be aired in Uganda and Rwanda.
Jenny Clayton
Jenny is a graduate of Blue Mountain College (now Blue Mountain Christian University),where she received a Bachelor of Science in education in 1999. She later received aMaster of Education from the University of Mississippi in 2002. Jenny taught for seven years in the public school system before beginning her homeschool adventure, which included tutoring and directing a classical homeschool community for 10 years. She loves gazing at mountains, camping, hiking, exploring, and Jeep-riding with her husband and two teenage sons. She is excited to be a part of the Bellevue Tutorial team for a seventh year.
Jess Steward
Jess graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She continued her education by pursuing a teaching certificate and taught for several years in the public school system. After becoming a mom, she continued tutoring math and teaching in various capacities before beginning to homeschool her children 13 years ago. Jess has had students in IEW for the past nine years and has been teaching it for the last five. She is passionate about helping students see God in all areas of life while developing critical thinking skills and becoming excellent communicators. Jess and her husband planted a church downtown 11 years ago, and church planting—along with chauffeuring teenagers—occupies much of her free time.
Jetta Seboly
Jetta graduated from Mississippi State University with a B.S. in Physics/Chemistry Education. She has taught high school math and science locally in public and private schools, homeschool groups, and online settings for 22 years. Jetta and her husband, Brian, have three children, and they have been homeschooling for 23 years. Jetta is a member of Millington First Baptist Church, and her hobbies include flowers, trees, birds, books, chess, and being a crazy soccer mom!
John Eubank
John has a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Memphis and aMaster of Divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He has taught multiple homeschool math classes for junior high and senior high students for more than 10 years. John has also taught Bible and history classes to high school students in the homeschool setting. In addition to being a homeschool dad of three, John is pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Bartlett.
Julie Anderson-Malanga
Julie joined the Bellevue Tutorial team in 2021. She has taught continuing education classes for multiple universities, most recently for Memphis College of Art. She has teaching experience in a variety of settings, including public schools, homeschool groups, colleges, and outreach services for youth. Additionally, she has conducted multiple workshops and private lessons. Julie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in art education.
Kellye Albritton
Kellye has been teaching for the past 32 years. Whether she is in a classroom setting or homeschooling her own children, she has always had a passion for education. Kellye strives to create a comfortable learning environment for every student and uses a combination of interactive labs and hands-on activities to aid student understanding.
Kimberly Benson
Kim is happy to talk anytime about Spanish language, culture, food, and history. She is married and has 4 children. She is a native Memphian and a graduate from TheUniversity of Memphis with a degree in Spanish. After graduation, she worked withLatino Memphis as a Spanish interpreter at a health department clinic. She has taughtSpanish to homeschoolers over the years and volunteered at Su Casa FamilyMinistries and Life Choices. She is on the missions committee at her church and helps to plan yearly mission trips to a children’s home in Guatemala. When outside the classroom, you will often find Kim with a cup of hot tea, spending time with her family, or listening to a good audiobook.
Kress Smith
Kress is an Orton-Gillingham–trained literacy tutor who approaches learning with both faith and compassion. She graduated from Union University in 2000 and has spent the last decade homeschooling her children, where she experienced firsthand how challenging reading can be for some learners.
Those experiences, along with her Orton-Gillingham training, shaped her desire to help other families. Kress teaches using Direct Instruction with a sequential, multisensory approach rooted in the science of reading. She believes every child is created with purpose and the ability to grow, and she loves coming alongside students as they become more confident and capable readers.
Lari Boswell
Lari is Bellevue Tutorial’s resident Japanese expert. After studying Japanese in college, she moved to Japan for three years. Upon returning to the United States, she worked closely with the Japanese staff members at Sharp Corporation. Along with translating documents and interpreting during meetings, she helped the children of new arrivals learn English as they transitioned to American schools. A retired homeschool mom of 18 years, Lari is excited to be a part of the Bellevue Tutorial community.
Lauren Moretta
Lauren graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science in Education and has completed more than thirty hours of graduate-level seminary coursework in Christian Education through The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Her passion for teaching developed through full-time ministry at her church, teaching ESL to international students, and homeschooling her four children. She enjoys helping students understand each subject through a biblical worldview and currently teaches Bible, as well as high school Health and Nutrition. In her free time, Lauren enjoys family trips to the Smoky Mountains, watching sports, and reading historical fiction with a latte.
Leigh Ann Quick
Leigh Ann holds a Bachelor of Science in Education with endorsements in math, computer programming, and business. She has taught every level of math, from sixth grade through Calculus, in both private school and homeschool settings. With many years of teaching experience, Mrs. Quick loves teaching math in the tutorial. She is a longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church and also enjoys teaching students and preschoolers about Jesus.
Macy Cross
Macy is a graduate of Mississippi College where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a pediatric oncology nurse for 12 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She is a homeschooling mother of six, and all of her children have attended Bellevue Tutorial. She volunteers in the Children's and Next Gen Ministries at her church as she hopes to encourage and minister to students. In her free time, she enjoys baking and planning trips. Most of all she loves to be with her family in the busyness of life; from sporting events to vacations, to just being around the kitchen table, she savors it all.
Nicole Humphrey
Nicole holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maryland and has over 23 years of teaching experience in tutoring, homeschool co-ops, and private and cottage schools. Since joining the Bellevue Tutorial in 2021, she has sought to inspire students with her passion for learning and her dedication to fostering critical thinking.She and her husband have been married for 24 years and have five children whom she homeschooled for 15 years. They live in Bartlett, where they are active members of New Hope Christian Church, and Nicole serves in the women’s discipleship ministry.
Shannon Jarvis
Shannon has been teaching for almost 25 years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in education (for grades 1–8) from the University of Memphis, and she obtained a Master of Education from Union University. Shannon taught for 15 years in the public school system and then worked for her district, providing professional development for schools while mentoring and evaluating teachers. For the last 10 years, she has been homeschooling. She loves camping, thrifting, traveling, and being outside with her husband and children. Shannon and her family are members of Grace Church Memphis. She is excited to be part of the Bellevue Tutorial tutor team again.
Tracy Thomas
Tracy is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1999. She taught in the public school system for two years before becoming a stay-at-home mom to her six children. Tracy has homeschooled for 20 years and has taught at Bellevue Tutorial for the past five years. She enjoys traveling with her family and watching her children play basketball.
